Set in what looks like the 1960s, Carrie Underwood sits with her military love in an old style Cadillac, both trying not to talk about the inevitability of him leaving for war. As she imagines what it would be like to walk down the aisle to marry her sweetheart, Underwood's beautiful smile and white dress effortlessly transform into a black mourning dress and tears that quickly wash away her smile. As her surroundings gracefully change from a moment of joy to one of dread, video director Roman White paints an exquisite picture of a dream turned nightmare. From hearing the opening line of Eddy Arnold's "Make the World Go Away," I was immediately drawn to this video. With beautiful imagery and Underwood's undeniable talent, lines like "And then they handed her a folded up flag/ and she held on to all she had left of him/ and what could have been" soon come to life. With the U.S. currently at war, I think this powerful song and compelling video will affect listeners and viewers on a personal level, no matter their political standing.
